In a landmark development for India’s cold chain and logistics sector, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone’s (APSEZ) logistics arm, Adani Logistics, launched its first refrigerated container train on May 22, 2026.
The dedicated reefer train, introduced for HyFun Foods, has departed from ICD Virochannagar to Mundra Port. The initiative is being seen as a major step toward building a modern, sustainable, and robust cold chain network in the country.
The project is the result of a strategic partnership between Adani Logistics, HyFun Foods, and Evergreen Marine Corporation.
The dedicated reefer train is to transport frozen and perishable food products from India’s farms and inland regions to global markets under controlled temperatures.
The move will likely reduce transit time while significantly lowering pollution levels by shifting transportation from road to rail.
Frozen food products transported through the train will now directly reach major international markets, including Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Indonesia.
These high-quality frozen products will become part of the supply chains of leading global brands such as Pizza Hut, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, IKEA and KFC.
The backbone of the logistics network is ICD Virochannagar, an advanced multimodal logistics hub with direct connectivity to Mundra and Pipavav ports. It also connects domestic cargo from remote regions, including Dankuni in West Bengal, Jirania in Tripura and Baihata in Assam.
The facility has an annual handling capacity of 92,400 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) and features a modern warehousing space spread across 6.6 lakh square feet.

Industry experts believe the initiative will strengthen India’s position as a reliable global supplier of high-quality processed foods.
The eco-friendly and multimodal logistics network is also likely to improve efficiency, safety and sustainability across the supply chain, benefiting everyone from farmers to exporters and end consumers.
