Major infrastructure projects led by the Adani Group, including the Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Dharavi redevelopment initiative, are contributing significantly to Maharashtra’s economic growth and urban transformation, industry experts and officials said during the Hindu Maharashtra Infrastructure Conclave 2026 held in Mumbai.
Speaking at the conclave, Jamshed, Distinguished Fellow at the Chintan Research Foundation (CRF), stated that the Adani Group has expanded its contribution beyond infrastructure into sectors such as electricity and renewable energy. He noted that these projects demonstrate how effective public-private partnerships can accelerate large-scale development and serve as a model for other states.
Dr Mahendra P Kalyankar, Chief Executive Officer of Mumbai’s Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), confirmed that authorities would launch skill development initiatives for Dharavi residents alongside the redevelopment work.
Officials will establish the Dharavi Experience Centre before August 15, with the master plan already finalised.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called for inclusive development across Maharashtra, beyond Mumbai, to regions like Gadchiroli. He highlighted progress in roads, metro expansion, housing, healthcare, and education.
Shinde said the Dharavi Redevelopment Project aims to provide dignified housing, modern infrastructure, and improved living conditions, making it one of India’s most ambitious urban rehabilitation initiatives.
The master plan focuses on economic transformation, sustainable infrastructure, ecological resilience, and equitable urban development.
Officials stated that Dharavi will evolve into a transit-oriented urban hub with seamless multi-modal connectivity, including a new metro corridor, feeder bus systems, dedicated infrastructure for non-motorised transport, and improved street networks to enhance accessibility and walkability across neighbourhoods.
