Adani International School (ADIS) is hosting the ISSO National Games Chess Competition 2026, bringing together more than 425 young players from over 100 schools across 10 states.
More than 800 students, parents, coaches and school representatives are attending the two-day national championship in Ahmedabad.
The competition features Under 11, Under 14, Under 17 and Under 19 categories. It gives school players a national platform to compete against peers from different parts of India.
The tournament tests concentration, strategic thinking, decision-making and composure under pressure.
Indian Chess Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa and Namrata Adani, Advisory Board Member of ISSO and Promoter of ADIS, attended the inauguration. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi was present at the event.
“Chess teaches young people to think ahead, make thoughtful decisions and stay composed when the outcome is uncertain. These are qualities that serve them well far beyond the chessboard. Competitions such as this give students the experience of preparing with discipline, competing with confidence and learning from every game, whether they win or lose,” Namrata Adani stated.
The championship enables students from different schools and states to compete, exchange experiences and build friendships through chess.
For ADIS, hosting the event reflects its broader focus on integrating sport with education.
The school aims to develop discipline, confidence, resilience, leadership and sportsmanship among students.
Players are now progressing through successive rounds, where preparation, judgement and composure will determine their performance.
