Adani Group’s Thermal Power Plant In Mirzapur Draws Local Support During Environmental Hearing

Adani’s 1600 MW Thermal Plant in Mirzapur Garners Public Support at Key Environmental Hearing Conducted by UPPCB.

Adani's Mirzapur Power Plant Gains Local Backing

On April 11, authorities conducted an environmental public hearing for a proposed 1600 MW coal-based ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Mirzapur, marking a major step toward developing energy infrastructure in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The hearing took place in Dadri Khurd village, located in the Sadar Tehsil, under the supervision of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB).

Plant Details & Development Impact

The thermal power plant, to be established by the Adani Group, is expected to significantly boost the power generation capacity in the region.

Officials stated that it would use ultra-supercritical technology, ensuring higher efficiency and lower emissions compared to older coal-based power plants.

The project is seen as a cornerstone for regional development, offering both energy security and economic opportunities.

Community Engagement

A wide range of stakeholders, including local villagers, Adani Group representatives, and senior administrative officials, attended the public hearing.

Rameshchandra Singh Patel, the MLA from Marihan and former minister, also participated in the session.

He voiced strong support for the project, highlighting the expected employment generation and overall progress it would bring to Mirzapur district.

Residents of Dadri Khurd and surrounding villages expressed optimism about the project.

Many welcomed the potential for job creation and infrastructure development, stating that such initiatives were necessary for the district’s future.

Several attendees praised the transparency of the environmental hearing process and hoped for swift implementation once clearances were granted.

Administrative & Environmental Oversight

Additional District Magistrate Shiv Prasad Shukla chaired the hearing, with the Regional Environmental Officer from Sonbhadra district also participating.

They assured locals that the authorities would carefully consider and address all environmental concerns during the approval process.

If approved, the project will help transform Mirzapur into a regional energy hub.

With growing electricity demand across Uttar Pradesh, the plant would serve both industrial and domestic needs.

Moreover, local businesses and infrastructure are likely to benefit from the increased economic activity brought in by such a large-scale project.

As the next steps unfold, authorities will review the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and community feedback before granting final construction approval.
