The Adani Group has committed to developing a 2,000-bed super-speciality hospital in New Town on the outskirts of Kolkata, with half of the facility dedicated to providing free medical treatment to poor patients.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari revealed the proposal on Saturday while addressing members of the civil society in his Bhabanipur Assembly constituency. He said the conglomerate had submitted a written assurance for the project, which will allocate 1,000 beds for charitable healthcare services and the remaining 1,000 for paid treatment.
The upcoming medical facility is expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in West Bengal by combining free and commercial services under one roof.
The initiative seeks to widen access to advanced medical care for low-income families while also catering to private patients.
CM Adhikari highlighted the project as one of several key initiatives undertaken by his government over the past two months during an event organised by the Alipore Citizens’ Association.
The proposed Kolkata hospital follows a series of healthcare projects launched by the Adani Group across India.
In May, the conglomerate introduced the ACE–Adani Centre for Eye Diseases in Bihar in partnership with Akhand Jyoti Hospital and the Adani Foundation to improve access to affordable eye care.
The initiative also established the ATOM–Adani Training Centre for Ophthalmic Medicine to train aspiring ophthalmologists and women healthcare professionals.
Speaking during a visit to Bihar earlier this year, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said restoring eyesight transforms lives by bringing back hope, confidence and dignity.
The group has also expanded its healthcare footprint in the national capital through a partnership with Adharshila Trust to strengthen dialysis services at Lady Hardinge Medical College, reinforcing its broader commitment to improving public healthcare infrastructure.
