Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, has set a new sustainability benchmark by securing the prestigious Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Gold Rating for its corporate headquarters in Ahmedabad.
Located at Commercial Tower 1, Inspire Business Park, Shantigram, the certification reinforces AGEL’s position as a company that embeds environmental responsibility not only in energy generation but also in everyday governance and operations.
The IGBC Gold recognition sends a strong message at a time when sustainability increasingly shapes policy, investment decisions and corporate accountability.
AGEL has made it clear that clean power alone does not define leadership; responsible infrastructure, efficient workplaces and conscious resource management complete the equation. The headquarters stands as a working demonstration of this philosophy.
Designed with precision and performance at its core, the AGEL campus, however, delivers measurable environmental gains.
Energy-efficient air-conditioning and advanced lighting systems have reduced electricity consumption by 12.28 per cent compared to conventional office benchmarks.
A 44 kWp rooftop solar installation generates nearly 67,921 units of clean electricity annually. It meets about four per cent of the building’s total energy demand and reinforces AGEL’s clean-energy-first approach.
Water conservation forms another critical pillar of the project. Efficient plumbing fixtures and six rainwater percolation wells have enabled a 39.51 per cent reduction in freshwater consumption.
The facility reuses all treated water for landscaping and sanitation. This reflects a closed-loop water strategy aligned with emerging sustainability norms.
AGEL’s commitment extended to construction practices as well. More than 22 per cent of recycled materials and 73 per cent locally sourced materials were used during development, reducing embodied carbon and supporting regional supply chains.
Notably, over 95 per cent of construction waste was diverted away from landfills, signalling disciplined execution rather than symbolic compliance.
Spread across 5.19 acres, the headquarters integrates functionality with ecology.
Landscaped green zones, over 350 saplings, bicycle infrastructure and proximity to public transport actively promote low-carbon mobility.
A centrally monitored Building Management System ensures continuous optimisation of energy and resource use. It transforms sustainability into a live, data-driven process.
Employee health and productivity remain central to the design. The building meets ASHRAE 62.1 indoor air quality standards, incorporates advanced ventilation systems, high-grade air filters and low-emission materials, ensuring a healthier workplace environment.
The IGBC Gold rating further strengthens AGEL’s broader sustainability credentials. These include:
- Single-use plastic-free operations,
- Zero Waste to Landfill certification,
- Water positivity,
- Electric mobility adoption and alignment with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework
