Adani Foundation launched the Swabhimaan initiative in 2021–22 in partnership with Adani Electricity and MAVIM to empower urban poor women by equipping them with essential skills, financial knowledge and entrepreneurial understanding.
The programme supports the government’s Viksit Bharat Mission and encourages women to contribute to the country’s inclusive development.
Through the initiative, women are saving money, accessing loans and starting small businesses.
Groups that earlier focused only on savings now operate as Enterprise Self-Help Groups (ESHGs).
Under this model, women receive training in business-related skills, financial literacy and group management, enabling them to manage and expand their economic activities more effectively.
The programme has already benefited more than 4,500 women in Mumbai.
By becoming financially independent, many participants have improved their families’ economic conditions.
The initiative has also helped them invest more in their children’s education, healthcare and overall quality of life, strengthening the socio-economic well-being of their households.
To recognise the dedication and progress of these women, a special event titled ‘Swabhimaan: The Rise of SHE’ is being organised.
The event will provide a platform for women to showcase their skills and products through exhibitions, demonstrating how access to the right opportunities and support can transform lives.
