Adani Foundation’s Sthavaro Mela: Fostering Artisan Empowerment and Cultural Heritage celebration in Ahmedabad

Adani Foundation inaugurated the two-day Sthavaro Mela at the Adani Corporate House (ACH) in Ahmedabad, showcasing diverse arts and crafts from across India. The event featured handmade products from 20 Self Help Groups (SHGs) and artisans nationwide, focusing on empowering artisans and preserving cultural heritage. The exhibition bridged the gap between artisans and consumers, aiming for sustainable livelihoods and economic development.

From bamboo and chemical-free Ganga-inspired incense sticks crafted by rural women in Sevapuri, Varanasi, to traditional and contemporary crafts from different regions, the exhibition portrayed the cultural richness of India. The natural incense sticks from Sevapuri gained attention, reflecting the self-confidence and success of the women involved. The company employing 300 women uses natural ingredients like cow dung, camphor, coconut oil, guggul, sandalwood powder, rice flour, and Ganga water to make incense sticks.

Kashi Prerana Saksham Producer Company Limited, a group of empowered women in Varanasi, showcased their creative designs for incense sticks at the Sthavaro Mela. With support from Adani Foundation’s Skill Development Center, these women received training and assistance, demonstrating their self-reliance. The center provided them with machines such as the laser machine for grinding, de-vatting machine, screen machine, and five manual machines, enhancing their daily work efficiency.

Despite the abundance of incense in the market, these women, supported by Adani Foundation, connected with society through their artistic culture. The foundation aimed to make these homemakers self-sufficient. After participating in skill development programs, the women entered training with enthusiasm, learning various aspects of incense production, packaging, marketing, and logistics. Currently, Kashi Prerana Saksham Producer Company Limited produces incense of different sizes based on market demands.
