Adani Foundation has taken the initiative of economic and social empowerment of rural women by providing them with training, resources and technical support for sustainable livelihood.
About 100 families of Amapura village in the Baran district of Rajasthan couldn’t reap benefits from farming as they were totally dependent on rainwater for agriculture. Since an organisation named Hadoti Pragatisheel Producer Company found a solution to their problem villagers have started realising the benefits
This business of milk work has increased the production of milk in the village. 500 women are associated with an APO that is created with the help of Adani. Payment of these women directly goes to their bank account. Experts anticipate linking the milk business with Amul.
Inspired by Amapur, Khelri village in the district has also adopted the initiative. Shahnaz Bano of the village became a part of the livelihood promotion camps set up by the Adani Foundation. In August 2022, Shahnaz and her team started a milk collection centre in their village and gradually more and more women became a part of this business.
Shahnaz Bano said, “I can proudly say that 200 liters of milk is being collected from my village every day, earning Rs 2.5 lakh every month. More than 40 new animals were purchased by the villagers in the same year. I myself am an example of how as a woman I have not only changed my life but also the lives of many women.”
In 2020, the Adani Foundation encouraged farmers to take up the dairy business and started a dairy development program. Under the foundation, TFPC (Tirora Farmer Producer Company) set up three bulk milk collection centers. Recognizing Revati(a woman who had experience in the field) Tai’s capabilities, she was selected to manage the BMC in Chikhli. Starting from 60 to 65 liters of milk collection daily from 20 farmers, Chikhli BMC now collects more than 25 thousand liters every day from 203 farmers.
“From this income, she saves Rs 8,000 for the education of her elder daughter, who is currently in Class 12. She is also contributing towards the construction of her house,” said Revati Tai. She handles all the technical aspects, including repairing of machines at all the centres. Revati Tai has become a role model and inspiration for everyone.
Pala Saha empowered herself by starting dairy farming
Another example is Pala Saha, A resident of Dungri village in Bargarh district of Odisha. She faced financial difficulties. However, through Dridh Pratigya Trust, a self-help group supported by the ACC-Adani Foundation, she received a loan of Rs 40,000. The financial support empowered her to start her dairy farming.
In just two years, Pala’s dairy farm saw growth. With the addition of more cows and improved facilities, her farm not only raised the standard of living of her family but also led to personal achievements. Today Pala Saha has 7 cows producing 30 litres of milk daily. With this work, she makes 12-13 thousand daily.
