Janmashtami, a significant festival in Hinduism, is celebrated with immense fervor and devotion by Lord Krishna’s devotees. It commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna, a day filled with auspiciousness.

Janmashtami is observed on the Rohini Nakshatra and Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha during the month of Bhadrapada. In the year 2023, Grihastha Ashram individuals will fast on September 6, while Smart/Vaishnav devotees will observe it on September 7, 2023. This year, September 6, 2023, coincides with Wednesday, adding to the significance of the celebration.

Pre-Requisites

Ensure you have the idol of Laddu Gopal (Baal Krishna).
Collect offerings like cow milk, curd, honey, ghee, yellow flowers, Meva, Makhan, Mishri, yellow cloth, sandalwood perfume, conch shell (shankh), Vaijyanti Flower & Seed, and Tulsi Leaves (plucked one day in advance).

Vrat Vidhi

Clean your home and sprinkle gangajal.
Take a bath with rose water and gangajal mixed in bathing water.
Decide between Nirjal Vrat (fast without food & water) or fasting with fruits and water.
If fasting with fruits and water, stay hydrated with fruits, fruit juices, coconut water, and water.
Break the fast either after midnight or after 4:40 PM of Sep 7, 2023, avoiding onion and garlic.

Puja Vidhi

Bathe the Laddu Gopal idol with milk, curd, honey, ghee, and shakkar.
Offer perfumed water with a shankh to the idol, then dry with a cotton cloth.
Adorn Laddu Gopal with a yellow cloth and other accessories.
Offer Vaijyanti Maala, Flowers, Meva, Makhan, Mishri, and Yellow and white Sweets.
Worship Laddu Krishna with mantras and seek blessings.
Chant ‘Ek Shloki Bhagwat’ 33 times and ‘Krishna Gayatri Mantra’ 108 times.
Distribute prasad/bhog to friends and family.
