Lucknow has again become the BJP’s most important political workshop as the party sharpens its Uttar Pradesh plan ahead of the 2027 Assembly election. The emerging Lucknow BJP strategy is familiar but more urgent: repair booth-level gaps, reactivate workers, court key social groups, and prevent the 2024 Lok Sabha setback from hardening into a longer trend.
Why Does Uttar Pradesh Matter to the BJP’s National Map?
Uttar Pradesh matters because it sends 80 members to the Lok Sabha, the largest contribution by any Indian state, and its Assembly politics often shapes the party’s national momentum. In the 2024 Lok Sabha results, the BJP won 33 seats in Uttar Pradesh, while the Samajwadi Party won 37 and Congress won six, a reversal that made the state central to the party’s post-election review.
That result did not remove the BJP from power in Delhi, but it did expose how quickly a strong state machine can face pressure when local caste alignments, candidate choices, worker morale, and opposition messaging converge. For the BJP, Lucknow is therefore not just a state capital. It is the command centre for rebuilding confidence before the next major electoral test.
Booths Are Back at the Centre of the Campaign
Recent reports show the BJP returning to its core organisational playbook: booth management. The party has planned booth-level conventions across all 403 Assembly seats, with local committees, workers, and functionaries expected to review preparedness, identify gaps, and provide constituency-specific feedback.
The renewed focus is not symbolic. Senior leaders, including BL Santhosh and Uttar Pradesh election in-charge Vinod Tawde, have been holding meetings with MPs, MLAs, district office-bearers, and grassroots workers to assess the party’s position and improve coordination between the organisation and the government.
Key elements of the BJP election strategy now include:
- Strengthening booth committees in weak or closely contested areas.
- Re-engaging workers who may have become inactive after earlier victories.
- Reviewing losses in eastern Uttar Pradesh and other difficult regions.
- Using local feedback to shape candidate and constituency decisions.
- Promoting welfare and development schemes through direct voter contact and digital channels.
The 2024 Lesson Is Shaping the 2027 Plan
The BJP’s current push follows a sharp contrast between its 2022 Assembly strength and its 2024 Lok Sabha performance. The New Indian Express reported that the BJP’s internal assessment found that thousands of booths won in the 2022 Assembly election later moved away from the party in the 2024 Lok Sabha contest, with rural areas, Awadh, and Purvanchal featuring prominently in the review.
This explains why the party is treating booth feedback as political intelligence, not routine paperwork. The formula from Lucknow appears to combine Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s state-level appeal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national brand, alliance management, and a granular booth-first structure.
The next phase will test whether that machinery can convert reviews into votes. For now, the message from the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh operation is clear: before Delhi, the party must first secure Lucknow’s ground game.
