The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stated its intention to seek the court’s permission to allow Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to continue working from jail if he is arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. At a recent meeting, AAP MLAs emphasized the importance of Kejriwal remaining in his role as Chief Minister even if he were to be arrested by the Central agency.

Aatishi, a Delhi minister, explained, “The people of Delhi have elected him as CM, and he should remain the CM. We will go to court and seek permission to hold cabinet meetings in the jail itself.”

Arvind Kejriwal had been summoned for questioning by the Enforcement Directorate, which is investigating potential money laundering in the liquor scam, on November 2. He had predicted his imminent arrest after skipping the questioning. Previously, he had been questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Notably, Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal’s former Deputy, had resigned from his cabinet post after being arrested in February and remains in jail. The Supreme Court recently rejected his bail petition, citing tentative evidence of a “carefully hatched conspiracy” to benefit a select few through the excise policy.

The CBI alleged that liquor companies were involved in influencing the scrapped 2021 excise policy, which would have led to substantial profits. The Enforcement Directorate further alleged money laundering related to kickbacks received by a liquor lobby called the “South Group.” The BJP claimed that this money was used to fund AAP’s campaign in Gujarat, where it achieved significant support.

AAP has accused the BJP of systematically arresting and jailing its leaders in fabricated cases with the intent to destroy the party. Saurabh Bhardwaj, a senior AAP leader, stated that the Central government’s objective is to “destroy the Aam Aadmi Party at any cost.”
