Who Killed Moosewala
Production company Matchbox Shots has purchased the rights to ‘Who Killed Moosewala?’, a book that details the story of the late Punjabi musician Sidhu Moosewala. Written by crime reporter Jupinderjit Singh, the book is about Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, also known as Sidhu Moosewala who was shot and killed in Punjab in May 2022. The book provides insights into crime, fame, and tragedy in his life. More information is still pending from the creators.

The OTT projects that Matchbox Shots is most known for include Andhadhun, Monica O My Darling, and its most recent venture, Scoop. Talking about the upcoming work, Jupinderjit Singh said in a statement, “The moment the book was published, there was a lot of interest from various production houses. I was really impressed with the kind of work Matchbox Shots is producing, and I am thrilled that they have taken the rights to the book to develop it further.”
Sarita Patil of Matchbox Shots added, “We have always found the macabre relationship between the music industry and gang wars in Punjab extremely intriguing. With Jupinderjit’s book Who Killed Moosewala? we know we have a strong backbone for our story.”
“The story is an intricate interplay of crime, fame, and music in Punjab, a narrative that demands contemplation and understanding,” said Dikssha Jyote Routray of Matchbox Shots, who will be leading the project. It’s not decided yet if it will be released as a film or a series.

What happened to Sidhu?
In May 2022, Sidhu Moosewala was shot and killed in the Mansa district of Punjab. He was allegedly shot by six gunmen while traveling in a jeep to Jawaharke hamlet in Mansa, which is 10 kilometers from the singer’s hometown of Moosa, with his cousin and a friend.
The Punjab Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) is looking into his death. The group has filed charges against thirty-two defendants, including the criminals Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Goldy Brar, and Lawrence Bishnoi. Among many other hits, the singer-turned-politician was best known for songs like So High, Same Beef, The Last Ride, Just Listen, and 295.
