On the 10th of October, 2023, at around 4:30 PM, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will have an interactive session and address the contingent of Indian athletes who showcased their exceptional talent at the Asian Games 2023. This significant event will take place at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi.

The Prime Minister’s initiative to engage with and applaud these athletes is a gesture to recognize and celebrate their remarkable achievements at the Asian Games 2023. India’s athletes made the nation proud by securing a total of 107 medals, including an impressive 28 gold medals, marking this as India’s most successful performance in the history of the Asian Games in terms of the total number of medals won.

Presence of athletes represented India at the Asian Games

The program will be graced by the presence of the athletes who represented India at the Asian Games, their dedicated coaches, officials from the Indian Olympic Association, representatives from various National Sports Federations, and officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. This gathering serves as both a celebration of past successes and an inspiration for future competitions, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting and supporting sports excellence in the country.

Historic achievement of Indian contingent

Acknowledging the historic achievement of the Indian contingent at the Hangzhou Asian Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to the athletes for reaching a remarkable milestone of 100 medals on Saturday. India had already surpassed its previous highest medal tally of 70 medals earlier in the week. In the 2018 edition of the Asian Games in Jakarta, India had secured 70 medals, which included 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze, marking their best performance at the time.

India achieved 100 medals

The confirmation that India would achieve at least 100 medals came on Friday evening, as the contingent concluded Day 13 with 95 medals and six more podium finishes guaranteed. Saturday morning witnessed the realization of those podium finishes, with the Indian compound archers adding four more medals, including two golds, to cap off their outstanding performance in this edition of the games. This remarkable achievement reflects the growing prowess of Indian athletes on the international stage.
