Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are counting down the days to the much-anticipated ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, set to commence on October 5. The tournament’s opening match will feature defending champions England facing off against the 2019 World Cup first runners-up, New Zealand, in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the host nation, India, will embark on their campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has voiced his support for England as his top pick to win the upcoming World Cup. Gavaskar highlighted England’s formidable attributes, particularly their impressive bowling lineup and the presence of three “world-class all-rounders” capable of influencing the game with both bat and ball.

“The defending champions, England, because of the kind of talent that they have at the top of the batting order, boast two or three world-class all-rounders who can change the game. They’ve also assembled a very experienced and effective bowling lineup,” remarked Gavaskar during an interview on Star Sports.

Conversely, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has thrown his support behind Team India, asserting that the hosts are meticulously fulfilling all prerequisites and are strong contenders to seize the coveted ICC trophy.

“I’m eagerly anticipating India’s performance, and I genuinely believe they are among the frontrunners, especially considering their recent performances in series such as the Asia Cup and their home series against Australia. They appear to be ticking all the right boxes,” Pathan expressed.

Pathan also underscored India’s exceptional bench strength, citing the example of Mohammed Shami, a world-class bowler not consistently part of the playing XI. This depth in talent further underscores the formidable team India has assembled.

Leading up to the World Cup, Team India will engage in their first warm-up match against England on Saturday in Guwahati. Cricket fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting the action-packed tournament, with high hopes for their favorite teams and players.
