Malaysian Girl, Age 10, Sets a Chess Record While Wearing Blindfolds And Moves The Pieces In 45.72 Seconds

After viewing a documentary about amazing human accomplishments, the girl was motivated to attempt this chess-related world record.

To accurately put 32 pieces on a chessboard is a difficult undertaking, but a Malaysian girl accomplished this feat in record time while wearing blindfolds. In just 45.72 seconds, 10-year-old Punithamalar Rajashekar effectively set up a chessboard while wearing blindfolds. Her achievement earned her the Guinness World Record for “fastest time to assemble a chess set while wearing blinders.”

According to Guinness World Records, Rajashekar was motivated to attempt this world record after viewing a documentary about extraordinary human accomplishments.
She told Guinness World Records that “watching people push their limits and accomplish incredible feats really inspired me.” Setting a personal goal and pushing oneself outside one’s comfort zone particularly appealed to her, she continued, and going for a world record felt like the ideal way to achieve it.

She began prepping four months before the actual attempt, with her father’s help. Throughout this voyage, she was motivated by her family and teachers.

Rajashekar noted that breaking the Guinness World Records was a life-changing experience for her and expressed hope that other people would be motivated by her achievements.

Her world record was documented on video and posted by Guinness World Records with the caption, “Chess genius arranges chess set BLINDFOLDED!”

In the video, Rajashekar is seen being blindfolded while the audience roars in approval. On the count of three, she began moving the chess pieces onto the board.
