Electric Buses
In a momentous event at the IP Depot in New Delhi, Lt. Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal jointly inaugurated a fleet of 400 new electric buses today. This significant addition doubles the count of electric buses in the national capital to a total of 800, marking a substantial stride towards sustainable urban transport.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot expressed his congratulations to Delhi residents, emphasizing the positive impact this expansion will have on the city’s environment and air quality.
Chief Minister Kejriwal, in a post on social media platform X, elucidated the budget allocation for these buses. “Together with the Honorable Lieutenant Governor, we flagged off 400 new electric buses today and dedicated them to the people of Delhi,” he stated.

“These buses are part of the 921-bus subsidy scheme, with a subsidy of ₹417 crore provided by the Central government, while the Delhi government will invest ₹3,674 crore,” Mr. Kejriwal further elaborated in Hindi.
With 800 electric buses now on Delhi’s roads, the city boasts the largest electric bus fleet in the country. Kejriwal also unveiled an ambitious vision, stating, “Our target is to introduce a total of 8,000 electric buses on Delhi’s roads by the end of 2025. At that time, over 10,000 buses will ply the streets, with 80 percent being electric.”
He concluded on an optimistic note, foreseeing Delhi gaining global recognition for its outstanding electric bus network.
