Himachal Rains Update: After the Kullu-Mandi road was damaged by severe rain in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district, hundreds of vehicles were left stranded. A lengthy queue of stationary automobiles can be seen in a video posted by news agency. Commuters claim that 5- to 10-kilometer-long traffic congestion is present. “We have nothing to eat or drink. People are starving here. The snarl should be cleared soon,” the commuter said.

Road damage in Kullu and Mandi
Sakshi Verma, the superintendent of police in Kullu, announced on Thursday that traffic has been halted due to damage to both the road connecting Kullu and Mandi and the other route through Pandoh.
“There was heavy rainfall in the district last night. However, the PWD department is working on the restoration of traffic as soon as possible. Unless fresh rainfall disrupts the ongoing restoration work, the road, in all likelihood, will be opened for small vehicles by tonight,” the SP said.

Himachal Rains Update: Red Alert from IMD
The hilly state, including Shimla, is under a red alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the upcoming two days due to severe to extremely heavy rains.
“Rainfall activity will increase from the evening/night of 22nd through 23rd and 24th August with spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall in low and mid-hill district during this period,” the IMD wrote in its bulletin. It also stated that starting on August 26 and continuing for the next two days, the state is likely to experience mild to moderate scattered rainfall.

Rain fury in Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh’s state administration has declared the mountainous region a “natural calamity affected area” as a result of the devastation caused by landslides, cloudbursts, and flash floods brought on by torrential rainfall this monsoon.
Over 200 individuals have already perished in rain-related accidents, according to the most recent figures. 113 landslides occurred during this year’s monsoon season, according to data cited by ANI. A total of 2,022 dwellings have been completely damaged, 9,615 buildings have been partially damaged, and there have been 2,022 total total damages.
Since June 24, the state has suffered a financial loss of 8014.61 crore.
