"Drawing paralle's between 'love jihad' and Lord Krishna and Rukmani's love story is despicable" said Sarma
Criticising state Congress president Bhupen Bora for his comment on the Golaghat triple murder case, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday said that if a police case is filed against him for hurting religious sentiments, he will be arrested.
A 25-year-old man killed his wife and her parents over certain family issues and later surrended before the police in Assam’s Golaghat district. A case of “Love Jihad” as the the wife was hindu and husband’s a muslim, said Sarma.
In reaction to Sarma’s statement, Bora said “All is fair in love and war. There are many stories in our ancient texts, including Krishna eloping with Rukmini, and the chief minister should not harp about marriages between people of different religions and communities in today’s age.”
Sarma called it ‘condemnable’
“Drawing parallel’s between ‘love jihad’ and Lord Krishna and Rukmani’s love story is despicable” said Sarma
“We do not want to take the step of arresting people but if Lord Krishna is dragged into controversy, several ‘sanatani’ people will file cases in police stations and then how will I stop the police from taking action?” he said.
Without the mention of Bora He remarked, without mentioning Bora, “If someone files a complaint against a person for uttering such comments, he would be arrested.
According to Sarma, Rukmini was not coerced into changing her religion by Krishna, as is the case in ‘Love Jihad’ situations where a lady is forced to marry by converting to another religion.
Humans should not be held to the same standard as deities, according to Sarma, “just as we do not bring in Hazrat Muhammad and Jesus Christ into any controversy.

“I request that the Congress refrain from involving Lord Krishna in any controversies. The mosques and madrasas will be the Congress’ final addresses if they continue to discriminate against Hindus. However, it’s possible that the AIUDF will also take them from there and leave them there.
According to Sarma, if Muslim men and Hindu men marry members of their own communities, there will be peace in the nation.
There is the Special Marriage Act, which can be used in cases where members of two different religions choose to wed. Nobody should go beyond what is permitted by law and coerce someone into changing their religion, the speaker argued. Condemning Borah’s statement, Himanta said the remark was against Sanatan and Hindu Dharma.
What does ‘love jihad’ mean?
Right-wing organizations refer to a scheme by Muslim males to seduce Hindu women into marrying into their religion as “love jihad” in order to support their allegations.
Sarma claimed that despite having spent his entire life in temples, he would feel insulted if asked to perform namaz.

“Similarly, if someone who offers namaz is asked to worship in temples, he will also feel bad about it,” he said.
“We have seen the consequence of ‘love jihad’ in the triple murder case in Golaghat. There have been many tragic incidents of suicide by girls who have been its victims. I appeal to the young people not to cross the ‘Laxman-rekha’ in the interest of peace and harmony in our state,” he said.
