Maharashtra: The number of fatalities from the Raigad landslide has increased to 26, and search efforts have resumed. On wednesday night a landslide occurred at the tribal village situated on hill slope under khalapur tehsil. On Saturday, search and rescue efforts in the Irshalwadi hamlet in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, where a major landslide killed at least 26 people, began again. According to officials at least 86 villagers are still unaccounted for.

Due to heavy downpour the search operations were called off on friday said a NDRF official. The search operation was resumed on the saturday morning involving 4 NDRF teams and other agencies.  

Around  17 of 48 houses in the village, located on a hill slope, were fully or partially buried under the landslide debris.Three more bodies have been recovered by NDRF. One male and two female bodies were recovered. Death count rises to 26. (25 locals and 1 firefighter) Raigad Police officials said.

Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), will pay a visit to the landslide victims who are staying in a neighboring temple. Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, paid a visit to the disaster area yesterday to assess the rescue and relief efforts. Additionally, he announced a Rs. 5 lakh ex-gratia to the departed’s relatives.

Maharashtra CM Shinde also announced to the adoption of the kids who lost both parents in the recent landslide at Irshalwadi village in Raigad district of the state. “In Irshalwadi landslide several kids have lost their both parents. CM Eknath Shinde has announced to adopt these kids and become their guardians. The CM has declared that these orphaned kids 2 years to 14 years of age will be taken care of by Shrikant Shinde Foundation,” said Shiv Sena.Heavy rains continue today in Mumbai and surrounding areas today. Malegaon, Jalgaon, Nashik, Aurangabad in Northern Maharashtra.
