LPGA Classic: Aditi Continues Her Attempts To Place In The Top Ten

Aditi Ashok had trouble getting into a rhythm at the LPGA Classic in Belmont, but she performed well enough to finish with a score of 72, an even par, and to continue on the path to success.

Aditi, who has had a strong year thus far—more so in the last three months—hit less greens in regulation, which reduced her chances of making birdies on the course’s tree-lined holes.

At the Blythefield Country Club, she had two birdies and two bogeys after two rounds without a bogey each on the first two days, and with one round left, she was tied for 13th place.

Aditi at 207 after rounds of 68, 67, and 72 and is six strokes off the lead held by Amy Yang, who birdied all five of the par-5 holes en route to shooting her third straight 67 at 5-under par to grab the third-round lead.

Two major tournaments are scheduled for Aditi in the next weeks, who has participated in the most Majors of any Indian (men or women).

The Grand Rapids region competition is the last competition before the significant Women’s PGA next week in Baltusrol and the US Women’s Open from July 6-9.

Yang, who is currently in first place and has won all four of her LPGA Tour victories in Asia, is attempting to win her first championship in the United States. After making bogeys on the par-3 11th and 13th holes, Yang recovered to make birdies on the par-5 14th, par-4 17th, and par-5 18th holes to finish at 15-under 201.

Ashleigh Buhai, a 34-year-old South African who last week won the LPGA Classic, blasted 66, including an eagle on the 18th hole. Buhai is one behind the leader with a 14-under score.

The second-round leaders, China’s Xiyu Lin (66) and Japan’s Ayaka Furue (69), tied for second place with Buhai.

Xiyu Lin played flawlessly, shooting a 6-under 66 on a hectic day. Lin improved to a tie for second place at 14-under after making six birdies in the third round, four of which came on the four par fives.

Ariya Jutanugarn (66), Hyo Joo Kim (69), and Leona Maguire (69) had scores of 13 under par, while Jennifer Kupcho (69), the defending winner, and Manon De Roey (69) and Lindsey Weaver-Wright (69) had scores of 12 under par.

Kupcho made three bogeys for the second straight day despite having an eagle and four birdies.
