Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Friday, June 2, 200 units of free electricity for households across the state every month, starting from July 1.
“We held a cabinet meeting today. Siddaramaiah also said that we discussed all five promises thoroughly. We have decided that all five guarantees will be implemented in the present financial year,” Siddaramaiah said.

While announcing the provision of 200 units of free electricity, he also said that consumers who have not paid their bills until July will have to do so.
“One won’t have to pay the power bill if the final figure is below 200 units,” he stated.

The five main promises of Siddaramaiah
Ahead of the Karnataka Assembly election, the Congress had promised five “main” guarantees in their manifesto. These included 200 units of free electricity, Rs 2,000 monthly support to the woman head of each family, 10 kg of free rice to all members of a BPL household, Rs 3,000 monthly for unemployed graduate youths and Rs 1,500 for unemployed diploma holders for a period of two years, and free public transport in buses for women.

Tota revenue from the BESCOM
The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), which is the largest electricity supply company in the state, has a total of 97,852,718 domestic consumers. This amounts to 5,871.50 crore in revenue for the company.
Under the tariff structure approved by the KERC, the energy charges for domestic consumers are 4.75 per unit. For instance, a consumer who consumes around 80 units of electricity per month would save around 380 per month. For those who consume over 100 units, the energy charges are fixed at 7. A consumer who uses 150 units in a month would be saving 1,050 per month on energy charges.
