Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) executive body member Indresh Kumar has objected to references to the organisation in Sonia Gandhi’s latest book, Belonging: A Journey of Love, describing the allegations as inappropriate and baseless.
Indresh Kumar claimed that the Gandhi family had used objectionable language against the RSS even before Independence and accused the Congress of repeatedly attempting to damage the organisation’s reputation and secure a ban against it.
Questioning the Congress’s approach, the RSS leader said the party had failed in its previous attempts to discredit the organisation and should reconsider its position. Drawing an analogy, he remarked that those who spit towards the sky eventually face the consequences of their own actions.
The remarks followed Sonia Gandhi’s recent interview with The Hindu, in which she expressed concern over the condition of India’s democracy, institutions and social fabric over the past 12 years and reiterated the Congress’s disagreement with RSS ideology.
Indresh Kumar accused Rahul Gandhi of playing with the Constitution. He maintained that political changes should take place through elections and the people’s mandate rather than attempts to discredit individuals, create disorder or spread unrest.
Reacting to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks about visiting the Ram Temple, the RSS leader questioned the timing of his statement and said religious faith should not be linked to electoral considerations.
Extending Diwali greetings, Indresh Kumar advised young people and Gen Z to prioritise education, professional skills and career development. He cautioned them against allowing political activities to distract them from their long-term ambitions.
The remarks came during a Diwali programme featuring Bollywood Sufi singer Mohammed Vakil and Dayalu Maharaj.
Vakil performed his popular song from the film Veer-Zaara, while bhajans and kirtans added a devotional touch to the evening’s celebrations.
