US President Donald Trump has warned that American forces could launch fresh military strikes against Iran if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington. He said further military action remained an option despite claiming that previous strikes had severely weakened Iran.
Speaking at a Republican campaign rally in Fort Myers, Florida, Trump suggested the United States could repeat its military campaign if diplomacy failed.
“We may do another little Epic Fury, or they’ll agree. If they’re smart, they’ll say, let’s get down to business,” Trump told supporters.
Trump cited Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury, claiming the operations had destroyed Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities and weakened its military and economy.
“We obliterated Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity with Operation Midnight Hammer,” he said. He added that subsequent operations had reinforced the initial strikes.
Trump did not specify the conditions Iran must meet to avoid further attacks. He claimed Washington had defeated Tehran militarily and financially and was working to consolidate those gains.
In an interview with Florida television station WINK-TV, Trump said he expected the conflict to end soon, either through an agreement or other means. However, he provided no timeline for ending the conflict or details of any ongoing negotiations.
The President maintained that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remained the primary objective of US military operations. He argued that military action had been necessary to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.
At the rally, Trump claimed Iran faced severe inflation and financial difficulties because of American military and economic pressure.
Trump said the US Navy was blockading Iran while allowing other ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. He claimed oil shipments had increased despite the conflict.
