Indian-American Republican Saritha Komatireddy has received the New York Post editorial board’s endorsement in her challenge to New York Attorney General Letitia James. The endorsement came on Friday, a day before early voting began on October 24.
The newspaper praised Komatireddy’s prosecutorial experience and commitment to tackling crime, fraud and corruption. It described her as a career prosecutor who had handled cases involving terrorists, cartel members and cybercriminals.
Komatireddy, 41, told the Post that crime had affected her family and friends. She cited a family member’s assault in a subway and a family friend’s experience with a stray bullet entering her bedroom.
She accused James of failing to address public safety concerns. The editorial, meanwhile, quoted James as saying her role focused on civil matters rather than criminal cases.
Komatireddy previously served as a federal prosecutor in Brooklyn’s Eastern District of New York. Her cases involved international terrorism, cybercrime, narcotics trafficking, money laundering and public corruption.
She shared the endorsement on X and released a campaign advertisement on homelessness.
Crime victims across New York feel ignored. That changes when I’m Attorney General.
New Yorkers deserve an Attorney General who prioritizes victims and holds criminals accountable. https://t.co/Utz8uBrW6g

An On Message Inc poll, conducted among 1,000 likely voters from October 12 to 14, showed James leading Komatireddy by 50.7 per cent to 44.7 per cent.
However, Komatireddy led 81 per cent to 19 per cent among respondents who watched their October 8 debate. A Siena survey last month gave James a 13-point lead.
James’ campaign dismissed the poll and accused Komatireddy of serving President Donald Trump’s interests.
James, a Democrat, won her first attorney general election in 2018 and secured re-election in 2022. Early voting runs from October 24 to November 1, ahead of the November 3 general election.
