India Slams UN Rapporteur Over ‘Factual Inaccuracies’; Rejects Pakistan’s Claims On J&K

India has criticised a United Nations Special Rapporteur over alleged factual inaccuracies and bias in reports on counter-terrorism, warning that human rights frameworks must not become a refuge for perpetrators of terrorism.

New Delhi also rejected Pakistan’s claims regarding Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, reiterating that the territories are an integral part of India.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee, India’s First Secretary Raghoo Puri criticised alleged factual errors and bias in the Special Rapporteur’s reports, warning they undermined the UN’s credibility and legitimacy. He called for greater impartiality and accountability.

Referring to the report’s mention of the UN Security Council listing D-Company leader Dawood Ibrahim for links to Al-Qaeda in 2003, Puri said the account lacked crucial context.

He said India had sought Ibrahim since 1993 over terror attacks and that Ibrahim had left the country before the 2003 listing. According to Puri, the listing linked Ibrahim to Al-Qaeda and its founder, Osama bin Laden.

Puri added that Ibrahim remains wanted in India and that the UN listing records his residence in the same country where authorities found and killed bin Laden.

Puri said human rights frameworks must not shield terrorists or justify violence, radicalisation and extremism.

Rejecting Pakistan’s allegations, he called them politically motivated propaganda driven by its military leadership. He reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were integral parts of India and would remain so, urging accuracy and impartiality in UN reporting.
