Indian stock markets will remain closed on Tuesday for Dussehra, suspending trading across major segments of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE).
Both exchanges have halted trading in equities, equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), currency derivatives and interest rate derivatives. Normal trading will resume on Wednesday.
Commodity markets, however, will follow different schedules. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will suspend morning trading from 9 am to 5 pm before reopening for the evening session. Trading will continue until 11:30 pm or 11:55 pm, depending on the contract.
Investors can trade commodities, including gold, silver, crude oil and base metals, during the evening session. The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), in contrast, will remain closed throughout both sessions.
Three regular trading holidays remain on the NSE and BSE calendars for the rest of 2026: November 10 for Diwali-Balipratipada, November 24 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev, and December 25 for Christmas.
The exchanges have scheduled a special Muhurat Trading session for November 8 on the occasion of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. They will announce the session timings separately.
In the previous trading session, benchmark indices ended lower amid selling pressure in banking and information technology stocks.
The BSE Sensex plunged more than 850 points, or over 1 per cent, to settle at 73,852.90. The NSE Nifty declined 257.20 points, or 1.11 per cent, to close at 22,888.95.
