Indian equity benchmark indices opened higher on Monday, October 12, supported by gains in Asian markets and easing crude oil prices.
The positive opening lifted investor sentiment, although analysts warned that global uncertainties and continued foreign investor outflows could limit gains.
The Nifty 50 opened at 22,593.20, gaining 72.75 points or 0.32 per cent. The BSE Sensex started the session at 72,771.32, rising 298.99 points or 0.41 per cent.
Most sectoral indices rose, with Nifty Media, Auto and Chemicals gaining up to 1 per cent. Realty, Oil and Gas, Cement, Metal and IT advanced 0.64–0.81 per cent, while PSU Bank slipped 0.01 per cent.
Market experts said external pressures continued to outweigh domestic strengths. Elevated crude oil prices and high US bond yields remain key concerns, while foreign institutional investors (FIIs) are expected to continue selling in the near term.
Domestic institutional investors (DIIs), meanwhile, are helping absorb the selling pressure.
However, analysts highlighted India’s estimated GDP growth of 7.1 per cent for the financial year 2026–27 and improving corporate profitability as factors supporting the market’s fundamentals.
Experts advised long-term investors to consider fairly valued growth stocks and said falling crude prices could trigger a market rally.
Technically, the Nifty could rise to 22,800–23,200, but a close below 22,575 may keep it under pressure. Analysts identified 22,295 as key support.
Asian markets opened cautiously ahead of the earnings season, while crude prices eased on expectations of higher Russian supplies following an agreement to halt attacks on energy infrastructure.
