The Union Home Ministry has asked all states and Union Territories to coordinate with Delhi Police and take precautionary measures ahead of a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The ministry has warned that supporters from several states may travel to the capital despite the denial of permission for the gathering.
The protest, scheduled for Saturday, October 10, seeks the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The ministry has urged state police chiefs to take necessary steps to maintain law and order and prevent unauthorised gatherings.
In a letter to state directors general of police (DGPs), the ministry said CJP and affiliated organisations could mobilise supporters to reach Delhi despite the authorities refusing permission for the proposed demonstration. It directed officials to act within the law to prevent unauthorised assemblies and ensure public order.
The ministry also stressed the need for continuous information-sharing among state intelligence agencies, border officials, transit authorities and Delhi Police to monitor potential movements towards the capital.
The letter cited previous events organised by CJP and its affiliated groups, claiming that gatherings involving supporters arriving from different states had disrupted public order. It also referred to incidents of damage to public and private property during earlier demonstrations.
The ministry warned of potential law-and-order issues and urged states to strengthen security and protect critical infrastructure.
Citing a 2018 Supreme Court order, it stressed compliance with rules governing public demonstrations and called for coordinated action to prevent unauthorised gatherings.
