Manipur CM Meets Amit Shah; Gets Centre’s Assurance On Peace And Stability

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss measures to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

The meeting focused on Manipur’s challenges, the state government’s efforts and the Centre’s continued support.

The Home Minister’s Office (HMO India) confirmed the meeting in a post on X, stating that Khemchand Singh had met Shah.

In his post, the Chief Minister said he briefed Shah on the steps taken by his government to restore peace and normalcy. He sought the Centre’s assistance in addressing issues facing Manipur and requested continued support and guidance.

Khemchand Singh renewed his invitation for Shah to visit Manipur.

According to the Chief Minister’s post, the Home Minister accepted the invitation and said he would visit the state later in October.

The Chief Minister said Shah heard his concerns patiently and assured him of all possible support to achieve lasting peace, promote progress and fulfil the aspirations of Manipur’s people. He thanked the Home Minister for appreciating the state government’s efforts.

The meeting comes as Manipur continues to work towards restoring stability following the ethnic violence that broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities on May 3, 2023.

The state has taken steps to restore inter-state connectivity. Bus services between Imphal, Dimapur and Guwahati resumed on August 21 after remaining suspended for more than three years, improving travel links between Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.
