The update allows users to interact with webpages without leaving the Chrome browser.
Gemini can summarise lengthy webpages, answer questions about content being viewed and help explain complex information.
The AI assistant can connect with Google services such as Gmail, Calendar and Keep, allowing users to complete certain tasks without switching between apps.
Google has introduced Auto Browse for Gemini AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in India. The feature allows Gemini to handle multi-step web tasks, including researching information, filling out forms and managing certain online errands.
Users must confirm sensitive actions before Gemini completes them. These include purchases and social media posts, giving users control over activities that could have significant consequences.
Google has built safeguards into Gemini in Chrome to protect against threats such as prompt injection, where malicious instructions on webpages can attempt to manipulate an AI system.
The Android rollout is part of Google’s broader effort to turn Chrome from a traditional web browser into an AI-powered assistant.
Rather than simply helping users find information, Gemini can understand webpages, connect information across Google services and assist with everyday online tasks.
For Android users in India, the update could make mobile browsing more convenient by reducing the need to switch between websites and apps.
At the same time, AI agents can increasingly perform tasks on users’ behalf, making it important to understand what actions the technology can take and when users must provide approval.
