Prime Minister Narendra Modi, completing 25 years as head of government on Wednesday, recalled major events that shaped his political journey, including the 2001 Bhuj earthquake, Morbi floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.
PM Modi said his eagerness to learn had become an integral part of his life. He continues to consider himself a student and believes greater learning strengthens his ability to serve the country.
Addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’, he recalled his school days in Vadnagar, saying his teachers taught lessons through different methods and he often reached class among the first students.
He said every person and event had taught him something. Success taught him humility, setbacks taught resilience, well-wishers offered encouragement, while critics encouraged introspection. Supporters showed him the value of trust, while opponents deepened his understanding of democracy.
“Every crisis has been a test of my patience, every success has deepened my sense of responsibility, and every achievement has given me the courage and determination to move towards bigger goals…Today, I can say that no event in my life has been in vain. Every event has taught me something,” he said amid chants of ‘Modi-Modi’.
Prime Minister Modi said the Morbi floods taught him the spirit of round-the-clock relief and service. The Bhuj earthquake taught steadfastness in reconstruction. Chandrayaan taught him to rise after failure, while Covid-19 highlighted collective national consciousness.
He credited the media, villages and poor citizens with shaping his approach to policymaking. He said limited resources should never restrict dreams or determination.
Calling public trust and citizens’ hard work his greatest strength, PM Modi thanked people for choosing him as their leader for 25 consecutive years. He said this accumulated experience belongs to the nation and every child of Mother India.
