External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will travel to Ghana on October 6 for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Ghanaian Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit will allow both nations to strengthen their longstanding relationship and reaffirm their shared commitment to cooperation.
The two sides will explore ways to expand collaboration in pharmaceutical development as part of Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘Accra Reset’ approach.
Their discussions will also cover agricultural mechanisation, value addition and measures supporting Ghana’s industrialisation and employment objectives.
India and Ghana will further examine opportunities to expand scholarship programmes and partnerships in information technology.
The two countries have also worked to deepen cooperation in maritime affairs and port operations.
In July, India’s High Commissioner-designate to Ghana, Surinder Bhagat, met Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, Acting Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.
The engagement examined avenues for expanding collaboration across the maritime and port sectors.
The Indian High Commission said India intends to strengthen its established partnership with Ghana through greater economic engagement and mutually beneficial initiatives.
Bhagat also held discussions with Ghana Maritime Authority Director General Kamal-Deen Ali on the safety and welfare of Indian seafarers and crew working in Ghanaian waters.
The talks addressed measures to protect Indian maritime personnel, resolve their concerns and improve coordination between the Indian mission and Ghanaian maritime authorities.
Jaishankar’s visit is expected to inject fresh momentum into bilateral engagement while opening new avenues for cooperation across economic, technological and maritime sectors.
