Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, state BJP leaders and all party MLAs in New Delhi on Saturday.
The meeting, expected to take place in the evening, will cover key political and organisational issues concerning Haryana and neighbouring states.
According to sources, BJP leaders will discuss preparations for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections and the political situation in the state.
They will also discuss the Opposition’s campaign over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the party’s response to allegations surrounding the exercise.
The BJP is reviewing its organisational preparedness and political strategy ahead of upcoming electoral challenges. Haryana legislators will also share feedback with the Prime Minister on political and organisational matters.
The meeting comes amid the Opposition INDIA Bloc’s criticism of the Election Commission of India and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the SIR issue.
On Friday, AAP leaders and workers detained during a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi demanded Kumar’s resignation and raised “vote theft” allegations.
A media report claiming differences within the poll panel has further intensified the Opposition’s allegations.
Meanwhile, the BJP recently appointed former Union Minister Smriti Irani as its Haryana in-charge, replacing Satish Poonia in an organisational reshuffle.
The BJP has also stepped up its political activities in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections. The party has made the drug menace a key campaign issue and has criticised the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government over its handling of drugs, law and order and security in the state.
