Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the Dharavi Experience Centre at PMGP Colony’s H Block near BKC, giving visitors an interactive view of the proposed redevelopment plan.
Fadnavis said the facility would enable Dharavi residents to see and understand their prospective homes, neighbourhoods and workplaces instead of depending solely on project drawings.
He said access to clear and detailed information would help dispel rumours, address misconceptions and strengthen confidence among residents and other stakeholders.
The centre features physical models and digital presentations covering rehabilitated homes, industrial areas, roads, open spaces and planned social infrastructure.
After reviewing the facility, Fadnavis said, “Dharavi is not just a slum; it is a major economic engine. A significant economy thrives here through Kumbharwada’s pottery industry, leather business, food processing, plastic recycling, and various micro, small, and medium enterprises.”
“The redevelopment plan respects these industries and focuses on providing them with better, well-planned workspaces. This is an effort toward comprehensive urban transformation while preserving Dharavi’s existing social, cultural, and economic identity,” he added.
He described the redevelopment as an example of the broader urban transformation taking place across India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Technology Showcases Dharavi’s Proposed Future
The centre uses modern audio-visual and digital technology to illustrate Dharavi’s present landscape and its proposed transformation.
Fadnavis said the facility would provide information about housing, roads, open spaces, social amenities and employment opportunities in one location, helping residents understand the changes envisaged under the redevelopment plan.
The inauguration was attended by Adani Group Managing Director Pranav Adani, BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide and senior officials from the Slum Rehabilitation Authority and Dharavi redevelopment project.
During the visit, Fadnavis unveiled the song ‘Dharavi Ka Kal’, performed by renowned singer Shankar Mahadevan.
He also released the book ‘Mere Sapno Ki Dharavi’, highlighting the aspirations and envisioned transformation associated with Dharavi’s redevelopment.
