Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief after five people were killed and five were injured in a bus-truck collision on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway in Gujarat’s Anand district on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 4 AM when a private luxury bus collided with a truck while attempting to overtake it, police said.
The Sai Darshan Travels bus was carrying around 30 to 40 passengers and had departed from Surat for Rajasthan. It was travelling from Anand towards Nadiad when the collision occurred, with most passengers asleep at the time.
The impact trapped several passengers inside the damaged bus. Police personnel and local residents reached the spot after receiving information and launched rescue operations.
Police rescued the injured passengers from the damaged bus and shifted them to a nearby hospital. They sent the bodies of the deceased for autopsy after completing the required inquest proceedings.
One passenger, Dhanesh Jadhav, said he had boarded the bus in Surat and was asleep when the collision suddenly woke him. He said panic and confusion spread among passengers immediately after the crash.
The accident temporarily disrupted traffic on the expressway. Police removed the damaged vehicles from the road and restored traffic movement.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision, including the bus driver’s reported attempt to overtake the truck.
The probe will examine the circumstances surrounding the crash and determine how the collision occurred. Authorities are also gathering information from passengers and other witnesses as part of the investigation.
