Delhi-NCR is likely to turn predominantly dry from Wednesday as the recent spell of rain and thunderstorms weakens, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting mainly clear skies across the national capital and neighbouring areas.
The weather shift follows Tuesday’s showers, which brought cooler conditions and a brief winter-like feel to Delhi.
Rainfall will ease across northwest India, keeping Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and most of Uttar Pradesh largely dry.
Delhi may see 24°C minimum and 33°C maximum on Wednesday, with the IMD forecasting dry weather across the region.
Southern, eastern and northeastern areas may see rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy showers over the Northeast and southern peninsula.
A depression over coastal Myanmar and the adjoining Bay of Bengal was moving north-northwest and may weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area.
A western disturbance and associated upper-air systems are also influencing parts of north India, while another circulation and trough remain active over southern India.
The southwest monsoon is gradually withdrawing as the rainy season approaches its end, supporting the shift towards drier conditions over northwest India.
However, Uttarakhand may see isolated rain and thunderstorms until October 4, while Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh could receive showers during the period.
The Northeast is expected to remain wetter, with rain forecast across several states until October 4.
Southern areas, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka, may also receive isolated heavy showers over the next four to five days.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the moderate category. AQI readings included 153 at Jahangirpuri, 149 at Pusa, 140 at IIT Delhi, 138 at CRRI Mathura Road and 134 at Wazirpur, while several other monitoring stations recorded levels below 130.
