US President Donald Trump has denied an Axios report claiming his administration offered Iran sanctions relief and access to frozen assets in return for nuclear concessions.
Trump rejected the report on social media and demanded that Axios withdraw it. ‘I offered them NOTHING!’ he wrote, calling the report a ‘HOAX’.
The denial came after Trump rejected an Iranian seven-day proposal linked to the Strait of Hormuz and renewed nuclear negotiations.
Iran’s plan seeks an end to the US blockade, release of frozen Iranian assets and permission to resume oil sales. In return, Tehran would reopen the strategic waterway and restart nuclear talks.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the choice now rests with Trump. He warned that Tehran remains prepared for renewed conflict while keeping diplomacy open.
Araghchi said Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz if Washington meets its conditions. He said the required steps could take four or five days.
The strait would reopen on the sixth day, followed by broader negotiations on the seventh.
Tehran wants its frozen assets released and its oil exports restored. Araghchi said Iran had presented the seven-day plan to Washington through mediators.
The dispute comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. US and Iranian officials held separate discussions through mediators on September 28.
