Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) National Working President Ashok Singhal on his 100th birth anniversary during the 138th episode of his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast on Sunday.
PM Modi described Singhal as a leader who dedicated his life to culture, society and the nation. He recalled that Singhal was born in Agra in 1926 and said he lived an ‘ascetic life’.
The Prime Minister said Singhal gave direction and energy to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and linked his contribution to the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Recalling his association with Singhal, PM Modi said he felt fortunate to have witnessed his life closely and to have joined him in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He also recalled thinking of Singhal during the consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple in 2024.
PM Modi highlighted another aspect of Singhal’s work, saying the former VHP leader also fought against social discrimination and inequality.
The Prime Minister noted that Singhal came from a prosperous family, with his father serving as a civil servant and several siblings holding senior positions. He also pointed out that Singhal graduated from IIT-BHU but chose to dedicate his life to society and culture.
PM Modi paid tribute to Singhal, recalling his contribution to public and cultural life.
He also recalled the 2016 surgical strike, saying the Indian Army carried out the operation across the LoC on September 28-29.
PM Modi said the operation demonstrated India’s approach to combating terrorism and highlighted the role of the armed forces.
