Virat Kohli has identified the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup as a major career target, declaring that he is willing to do everything necessary to help India lift the trophy.
The competition, set to take place in South Africa, is expected to be his last ODI World Cup for the national side.
Speaking to JioStar before India’s opening ODI against the West Indies on Sunday, Kohli discussed the physical and mental demands of the 50-over World Cup and the drive behind his preparations.
“The intensity of a 50-over World Cup is greater than anything. Because now, it’s about 10 games at a T20 level of intensity. But you are playing 2.5 T20 games in one day. And to maintain that intensity for 10 games in a big tournament and World Cup is a big deal. Also now, it’s in foreign conditions. It takes a lot out of you,” Kohli said.
Kohli’s Strong Record in World Cups
Kohli has scored 1,795 runs in 37 ODI World Cup matches. He has averaged 59.83, with five centuries and 12 half-centuries.
His career ODI total is 14,941 runs. It includes 54 centuries.
Rohit Sharma said he does not see his World Cup ambitions as a task that can simply be completed. He explained that every tournament brings fresh challenges while he continues playing.
“The thought will never cross my mind that the business I have is finished. As long as you’re playing, there is always something to look forward to. And I’m looking forward to the World Cup, looking at what lies ahead for me,” Rohit said.
India’s first ODI against the West Indies is set for Sunday at 2 pm, with the match available live on JioHotstar and the Star Sports Network.
