Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked eight years of Ayushman Bharat, saying the scheme aims to provide every Indian with quality and affordable healthcare.
He said more than 60 crore beneficiaries now receive annual health cover of Rs 5 lakh. PM Modi described Ayushman Bharat as the world’s largest healthcare scheme.
“Eight years ago, Ayushman Bharat was rolled out with the idea that every Indian should have access to top-quality and affordable healthcare,” PM Modi posted on X.

He said the scheme had reduced medical expenses for poor and middle-class families. Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have recorded more than 500 crore visits, strengthening primary healthcare.
PM Modi shared a MyGovIndia post highlighting the scheme’s achievements. It said free treatment under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY helped families save over Rs 2 lakh crore.
More than 38,000 hospitals now form part of the Ayushman network. The scheme has facilitated over 13 crore hospital admissions.
Six crore senior citizens aged above 70 are covered irrespective of socio-economic status. The network includes 1.86 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
Nearly half of Ayushman Cards belong to women. More than 42 crore screenings for diabetes and hypertension have been conducted. Crores of screenings for oral, breast and cervical cancers have helped detect risks early.
More than 30 lakh treatments worth over Rs 8,800 crore were availed outside beneficiaries’ home states. This highlights the scheme’s nationwide portability.
MyGovIndia said 60-plus crore people now have Rs 5 lakh health cover, providing financial protection during serious medical needs.
