A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men posing as policemen at a park near Delhi’s Kalkaji Mandir, officials said.
The girl and her friend visited Kalkaji Mandir at around 7 PM on Monday. After offering prayers, they went to a nearby park at around 7.30 PM, where three men aged around 25-30 approached them and claimed to be policemen, according to the complaint.
The men allegedly threatened the two and sexually assaulted the girl. Police received a PCR call about the incident at around 8.45 PM and immediately sent a team to the park near Kalkaji Mandir and ISKCON Temple.
Police later apprehended one of the accused, identified as Asif, following an encounter. Officials said Asif sustained a gunshot wound and is receiving medical treatment. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the other two suspects.
The incident comes days after police arrested a 56-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a sixth-grade student inside a shop in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar area.
According to police, the girl went out to buy stationery on September 16 when the accused allegedly lured her into a nearby shop, restrained her and sexually assaulted her.
Police received a PCR call and arrested Maqsood before sending him to judicial custody.
Earlier, police arrested four people, including three juveniles, over the gang rape and murder of a teenage girl. They found her decomposed body near Kushak Road in Swaroop Nagar.
The latest incidents have renewed concerns over the safety of women and girls in the National Capital, while police continue investigations into the cases.
