New Delhi-based Kathak dancer and Pushkala Sangeet Kendra founder and director Sneha Mukherjee delivered an impressive performance on the opening day of the 11th WhiteSwan Responsible Art Festival, showcasing the richness of Indian classical dance and its spiritual traditions.
Associated with the Kalka-Bindadin Lucknow Gharana, Mukherjee trained in Kathak under the guidance of Pt Ram Babu Bhatt.
Mukherjee is also an art educator, choreographer and singer. Through Pushkala Sangeet Kendra, she has promoted arts education and nurtured talent for over a decade.
She began with a Ram Stuti in Kalyan Thaat, followed by Pt Birju Maharaj’s tarana in Raag Kalavati, showcasing traditional Kathak rhythm, expressions and grace.
Beginning with the spiritual mood of the Ram Stuti and progressing to the intricate rhythmic patterns of the tarana, Mukherjee highlighted the enduring beauty of the Kathak tradition.
Mukherjee highlighted India’s classical arts and spiritual heritage, urging young people to stay connected with their cultural roots.
Addressing students, she said music is more than entertainment, serving as a medium to express emotions and connect with the mind and soul. She encouraged youth to embrace modern genres while preserving India’s rich musical heritage.
During the event, Mukherjee also extended birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She linked the concept of Ram Rajya with the creation of an ideal, peaceful and responsible society, stressing that every citizen has a role in building such a society. She also highlighted the role of art and culture in promoting positive values, sensitivity and harmony in society.
