The United States has launched a digital portal to involve defence contractors, technology start-ups, investors and researchers in developing its planned $185 billion Golden Dome missile defence system.
General Mike Guetlein, Director of Golden Dome for America, announced the Golden Dome for America Ecosystem Hub at the annual Space and Missile Defence Symposium on Tuesday.
The platform will provide a single point of contact between programme officials and defence companies, commercial technology firms, venture capitalists, universities, research laboratories and independent entrepreneurs.
Potential partners will be able to register, upload concepts and submit designs directly to programme decision-makers.
Officials said the system could eliminate months of administrative delays.
The portal will, however, provide real-time, unclassified information about capability gaps, enabling companies and investors to focus research and development on the programme’s immediate requirements.
Guetlein said the United States must build a defensive shield capable of adapting more quickly than sophisticated and manoeuvrable aerial threats. He added that the programme would also reduce bureaucratic barriers and strengthen collaboration between commercial innovators and the national defence establishment.
The government plans to use commercially available technologies and encourage competition among suppliers to control costs.
Guetlein said officials remained committed to responsibly managing the $185 billion required to deliver the system.
The portal also aims to strengthen supply chains and expand the American defence industrial base by connecting qualified suppliers with new sources of investment.
Officials say multiple vendors will strengthen supply chains and accelerate production. Golden Dome will use sensors, command systems and interceptors to detect and counter aerial and missile threats.
The initiative forms part of a broader US effort to integrate commercially developed technologies into national security programmes more rapidly.
