Apple is reportedly preparing a major redesign of the iPad Air, with the next-generation model expected to debut in early 2027, according to multiple media reports.
If the rumours prove accurate, it would mark the tablet’s first significant design overhaul since the fourth-generation iPad Air launched in 2020.
While Apple has upgraded the iPad Air with successive M-series chips in recent years, the overall design has remained largely unchanged.
The biggest reported upgrade for the 2027 model is the introduction of an OLED display.
Reports suggest Samsung Display will supply a single-stack LTPS OLED panel, which will likely deliver deeper blacks, richer colours and improved power efficiency compared with the LCD screen used in the current iPad Air.
Although it may not match the tandem OLED technology found in the iPad Pro, analysts believe it will still offer a noticeable improvement in display quality.
The redesigned tablet is also likely to feature Apple’s upcoming M5 chip, promising faster performance, improved energy efficiency and enhanced multitasking capabilities.
Industry reports further suggest the new iPad Air could adopt a slimmer design with thinner bezels, a vibration speaker system and improved water resistance.
Some design elements may also be inspired by Apple’s future iPad mini models.
If introduced, these upgrades could make the iPad Air a more compelling option for students, professionals and creative users seeking premium features without stepping up to the iPad Pro.
Apple has not officially announced a redesigned iPad Air or confirmed any of the reported specifications.
All details regarding the device remain based on industry leaks and media reports.
