Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Friday and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across several key sectors.
PM Modi congratulated Burnham on assuming office and wished him a successful tenure. Both leaders agreed to expand cooperation in technology, innovation, defence, security, clean energy, education and people-to-people exchanges.
The Prime Minister said both countries would also maximise trade and investment opportunities under the recently operationalised India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). He said the agreement would promote shared prosperity and improve the well-being of people in both nations

According to 10 Downing Street, Burnham highlighted the strength of the UK-India partnership and its positive contribution to communities across Britain. He outlined his vision to deepen bilateral ties through the UK-India Vision 2035 framework and stronger people-to-people relations.
Burnham praised the contribution of the Indian community to British society.
PM Modi highlighted the historic connection between Manchester and Ahmedabad, describing Ahmedabad as the ‘Manchester of India’.
The two leaders welcomed the opportunities created by the Free Trade Agreement and reaffirmed their commitment to the UK-India Technology Security Initiative. They also discussed cooperation in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence.
The leaders reviewed the security situation in West Asia and agreed to work closely towards de-escalation and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. They also agreed to remain in regular contact and meet in person at the earliest opportunity.
Earlier, PM Modi congratulated Burnham on assuming office and expressed confidence that the India-UK partnership would grow stronger under Vision 2035, supported by CETA and expanding cooperation across trade, investment, technology, defence and people-to-people ties.
