Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) has announced financial assistance for people affected by the devastating floods in Assam.
During an emergency Core Team meeting at Kalam Bhavan in New Delhi, the organisation unanimously resolved to contribute to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and expand relief operations across the flood-hit state.
The meeting brought together National Conveners Mohammad Afzal, Dr Shahid Akhtar, Girish Juyal, Abu Bakar Naqvi, Dr Shalini Ali and Shahid Sayeed.
Members paid tribute to those who lost their lives and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. They also reviewed the humanitarian situation and discussed measures to strengthen relief and rehabilitation efforts.
After visiting the affected districts, Dr Shahid Akhtar and Girish Juyal presented a detailed field assessment.
Dr Akhtar said the destruction had devastated homes, farmland and livelihoods across several districts. He urged citizens to stand united with every affected family. He added that millions have suffered severe disruption and require immediate assistance.
Dr Shalini Ali stressed that women, children and elderly people remain the most vulnerable during disasters. She called for urgent access to food, clean drinking water, medicines, sanitation facilities and secure shelter in relief camps.
National Convener Shahid Sayeed described Assam’s crisis as a national humanitarian responsibility. He urged citizens to contribute according to their capacity and emphasised that compassion and national unity must prevail over politics.
Mohammad Afzal said disasters affect every community equally and reaffirmed MRM’s commitment to impartial relief work.
The organisation also resolved to expand the distribution of food, medicines, clothing and other essentials.
According to the assessment, nearly 6,00,000 people have been affected across Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan.
Thousands remain in relief camps, while damaged villages, submerged farmland and destroyed infrastructure have intensified the need for immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation.
