Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Harjinder Kaur and Gulveer Singh after they won silver medals for India at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister congratulated Harjinder on her achievement, highlighting her personal best performance and extending his best wishes for her future.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Gulveer Singh after he became the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 10,000m event.
In another post, Prime Minister Modi praised Gulveer’s commitment and dedication while wishing him success in his future endeavours.

Harjinder clinched silver in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event on Tuesday with a combined lift of 227kg, including 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk.
The performance marked a personal best for the Indian weightlifter and further strengthened India’s impressive campaign in the sport at the Games.
Gulveer delivered a strong performance in rain-soaked conditions, clocking 27:49.78 to finish second behind Australia’s Ky Robinson.
The national record holder remained among the frontrunners throughout the race before producing a powerful finishing kick on the final lap to secure the historic silver medal.
The two silver medals took India’s tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 to 12.
While Harjinder continued India’s strong legacy in Commonwealth weightlifting, Gulveer’s podium finish marked a landmark achievement for Indian athletics in distance running.
