Will It Rain In Your City? IMD Issues Fresh Heavy Rain Alert Across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country as the southwest monsoon remains active.

The department warned that widespread rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, is likely to affect Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya and other northeastern states over the coming days.

According to the IMD, Gujarat is likely to receive the heaviest rainfall, with isolated areas likely to experience extremely heavy showers.

The department attributed the active weather to a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh, along with an active monsoon trough and multiple cyclonic circulations. These weather systems are expected to sustain widespread rainfall across northwest, central, western and northeastern India.

Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

The IMD said rainfall activity would intensify over the next two to four days, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy showers from July 27.

Cloudy skies, humid conditions and near-normal temperatures are likely to persist.

Mumbai and the Konkan region are also likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of waterlogging and traffic disruption.

Ahmedabad and nearby districts in Gujarat may witness heavy to extremely heavy rain, raising the possibility of localised flooding and waterlogging.

Rajasthan, including Jaipur and several eastern districts, is also likely to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The IMD has issued rain and thunderstorm warnings for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with gusty winds of up to 85 kmph. It also warned of landslides in hilly areas and possible transport and power disruptions due to strong winds.
