Metro services at 18 stations across the Delhi Metro network will remain suspended from 07:30 AM on Saturday until further notice, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Friday, citing operational reasons.
The move comes as student protests over the NEET paper leak continue at Jantar Mantar, prompting heightened security arrangements across central Delhi.
Despite the closures, commuters will be able to interchange trains at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations to maintain connectivity on the network, the DMRC said.
The affected stations are Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan and New Delhi.
The DMRC also announced that services on the Airport Express Line will operate only between Dhaula Kuan and Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 during the restrictions.
Officials said the temporary closure is intended to regulate crowd movement and help maintain law and order in sensitive areas of the city.
Large numbers of students, parents and activists have been gathering in central Delhi to protest against the alleged examination irregularities.
Jantar Mantar, located close to several of the affected metro stations, has remained the focal point of the demonstrations, with protesters seeking accountability and reforms to the public examination system.
The DMRC apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and advised them to plan their travel in advance.
Security personnel are also likely to maintain an increased presence around the closed stations and protest locations to prevent any untoward incidents.
